The Mortal Instruments - Book One: City of Bones

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemium Club in New York, she hardly expects to witness a murder and a victim disapperaing into thin air. Much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tatoos and carrying bizarre weapons on them ...

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors who try to keep the earth clean of demons. It is also her first encounter with Jace, who saves her life when she herself gets attacked by a demon. But why are those demons so much interested in Clary?

I think this first book of Cassandra Clare's series The Mortal Instruments is very well written. It's a novel for young adults but not too easy to read because of some short forms of words. Nevertheless, it's a real page-turner - you can't stop reading until you're finished. You really want to read the other six parts of the series. I think the best thing about the book is that a fantasy-story can be written in such a detailed and realistic way. (Julia Straßberger, 4b)
