Atonement is a romantic war drama film from 2007, directed by Joe Wright. It is about the consequences lies and misunderstandings can cause.

In 1935, 13-year-old Briony accuses Robbie Turner, who her sister Cecilia is in love with, of a terrible crime he did not commit. After that, Robbie gets arrested and has to go to prison. Four years later, he is released from prison on the condition that he joins the army. In the meantime, Celia becomes a nurse. Will the two of them meet again?

We think the film is very well-made with a fascinating development of the storyline up to an astonishing twist at its climax. The actors, especially Keira Knightley, James McAvoy and Saoirse Ronan, portray their roles very convincingly. The film is truly emotional and we had to cry a lot at the end. Summing up, Atonement is really worth watching and we recommend it! (Laura Kisser and Melanie Swatek, 5a)
